Vice President, Research & Development

Based in San Diego, CA, Biological Dynamics, Inc. (BioDyn) is a privately held molecular diagnostics Company committed to improving global cancer outcomes by empowering healthcare communities with low-cost, accessible cancer diagnostics for labs and point-of-care.  At BioDyn, we are developing a suite of novel oncology tests for early cancer detection, treatment response, and recurrence monitoring. The company’s lab-on-a-chip platform offers a novel way to isolate cell-free nanoparticles and macromolecules directly from whole blood, serum, or plasma.  In addition to lab-focused products, the Company is also developing a smartphone-enabled portable version of the platform, extending molecular testing into homes.  Our diverse team shares passion for improving patient care, a focus on cutting-edge technology, and a deep commitment to innovation, which shapes the future of our Company and drives our innovative culture.

 

Of immediate need to BioDyn is a full-time Vice President, Research & Development to help lead the Company through the next phase of its growth and development. The VP of R&D has responsibility for leading our technical teams who are dedicated to core platform development, assay development, software development, hardware engineering, program management and systems integration. The VP of R&D will report directly to the CEO as a member of the Senior Staff and will play an important role as the lead technical interface to the Board of Directors and external stakeholders and partners.

Responsibilities:

·         Leads all research, product development, and transfer to manufacturing activities for ‘on budget-on
schedule’ delivery of products and services

·         Works with program management to develop, implement, execute, and ensure compliance
with program management and product development processes that meets all FDA and targeted
foreign registration requirements

·         Develops other operating mechanisms and processes to ensure effective communications and
operations within R&D and with other functional areas

·         Leads the R&D work preparing the information needed for due diligence by potential investors

·         Represents the Company to outside entities including conference presentations and other meetings

·         Prepares and makes presentations to the Board of Directors, and otherwise interfaces with BoD
members as necessary

·         In collaboration with the Senior Staff, continues development and execution of the Company strategy,
including working with the R&D leaders to develop tactics in support of the strategy

·         Ensures that there is a new assay and platform applications pipeline to expand the menu on the
existing platforms and to open new applications of the base technology

 Qualifications:

·         PhD/MS in biochemistry, molecular biology, or similar academic background with systems
development experience, or engineering/physics/computer science with significant experience
leading molecular assay development

·         5 years experience as a VP/Director, supervising managers in R&D, leading at least one technically
and financially successful FDA regulated molecular diagnostics product development project
through launch

·         10 years additional experience as an individual contributor/first level manager contributing to
successful new product launches in life sciences and/or medical device

·         Working knowledge of and experience collaborating with executive teams on business planning and
strategic product management

·         Experience adapting and implementing FDA oriented product development processes to a
Company environment and using PDP to drive on schedule and budget product development

·         Development of biochips using silicon semiconductor fabrication

·         Academic or work experience developing assays or other medical devices for use with oncology
patients

·         Experience developing and supporting an LDT (Lab Developed Test)
