Immediate part-time position for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS). The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing high complexity diagnostic testing in CLIA certified, CAP accredited clinical laboratory. Previous high complexity diagnostic testing including PCR/molecular experience is a must. Other requirements include designing and performing LDT validations, analyzing data, writing and editing SOPs and conducting routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on instruments and equipment. Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills and experience with laboratory information systems. Additionally required to support research and development studies as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Performs high complexity molecular tests.
Assists in the development and implementation of new test systems.
Creates and implements new SOPs for laboratory test procedures.
Maintains complete records for all laboratory test systems in accordance with departmental policies and Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments (CLIA) ’88.
Participates in departmental activities to ensure quality assurance, quality control and safety requirements meet CLIA ’88 and participates in proficiency testing.
Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria in testing procedures.
Evaluates the acceptability of routine analysis prior to releasing patient reports. Takes appropriate action in response to critical values or unusual or unexpected results, and documents action taken.
Determines calculated results utilizing testing data by means of manual or computerized procedures.
Performs preventative maintenance and/or calibration of laboratory equipment with required documentation.
Evaluates the results of instrument performance checks. Performs linearity, accuracy and precision checks as required.
Performs Q/C and calibrations with the appropriate frequency and evaluates results, to decide whether tests should be reported.
Accurately performs and records proficiency testing.
Follows established company and department policies and procedures. Follows the guidelines for safety, environmental, and infection control.
B.A. or B.S. in medical technology or biological sciences from an accredited college or university.
3 to 5 year's direct experience in a clinical laboratory setting with expertise in one or more of the following:
o Extraction of nucleic acids (DNA & RNA) from body fluids (e.g. whole blood)
o Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) analysis of sequence variation in genomic DNA
o Real-time Quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) expression analysis of RNA
o Genomic DNA sequencing, either traditional Sanger or Next Generation Sequencing
Current California state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license to perform laboratory testing.
Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of pipettes, pH meters, balances, centrifuges and other standard or specialized laboratory equipment preferred.
Full command, verbal and written, of the English language
Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills such as word processing, statistical analysis, and laboratory information system.
Ability to work in team environment as well as independently as required
